The Monthly, Australia’s leading current affairs and culture magazine, is looking for a full-time online production editor with high-level editing, proofreading and content management skills.
The successful candidate will have at least three years’ professional publishing experience (online content for a magazine, journal or newspaper preferred), be able to work meticulously, quickly and independently, and be comfortable working primarily with online content.
This position is based at The Monthly’s office in Carlton, Melbourne.

What you will bring to the role:
• an understanding of and experience working in the online media landscape
• a keen interest in and solid knowledge of Australian politics, society and culture
• sound editorial judgement and demonstrated copyediting ability
• an appreciation for quality writing
• accuracy and attention to detail while working quickly
• demonstrated experience in liaising with authors
• familiarity with content management systems
• familiarity with Campaign Monitor or other direct email applications
• proficiency in MS Office, Google Docs and macOS
• a positive attitude and the ability to work well in a small team

Basic InDesign and Photoshop skills and copywriting experience are also desirable.

Primary responsibilities:
• daily and weekly e-newsletter assembly, editing and publishing (including the politically focused weekday e-newsletter The Monthly Today and the weekly e-newsletter The Monthly Sunday Reads) to tight deadlines
• copyediting, fact-checking and proofreading online content
• crafting engaging, SEO-friendly titles and subtitles for online content
• image research and sourcing for the website
• providing editorial input, and undertaking other editorial, marketing and publicity tasks as requested by the editor and other members of staff
